See nature up close through stunning images by professional, emerging and junior photographers who have shown impeccable timing, patience, artistry and technique to capture incredible moments in time.

Celebrating the natural heritage of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea, this breathtaking exhibition allows us to witness the unique beauty of the flora, fauna and landscapes of our own backyard and the world around us.

This year’s exhibition also includes three exciting new categories: Animals in Nature, Astrophotography and Urban Animals.

The Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year exhibition runs from Saturday 27 August 2022 to Sunday 30 October 2022.

People’s Choice Prize

While you’re visiting the exhibition you can also vote for your favourite photo and be in with a chance to win an Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year prize pack!

The prize includes:

·         12 month subscription to Australian Geographic, delivered.

·         A copy of A Portrait of Australia

·         2022 Exhibition Catalogue and Desk Diary

The winning photographer will also receive $500.

You can vote for your favourite photo via the voting stations in the exhibition space.

Voting opens at 10.00am on Saturday 27 August and ends at 3.00pm on Friday 14 October. The People’s Choice winner will be announced on 21 October 2022. The voter prize winner will be notified by email on 28 October 2022.

Win passes to Monarto Safari Park!

To highlight awareness of National Threatened Species Day we’re giving away one double pass and one family pass to Monarto Safari Park.

As a conservation charity, they’re continually working to secure a future for some of Australia’s most endangered animals like Tasmanian Devils, Black-flanked Rock-wallabies, Western Swamp Tortoises and Pygmy Blue-tongue Lizards. Their efforts help to ensure these Australian species don’t become extinct like the Tasmanian Tiger.

Entry is simple, just purchase a ticket to the 2022 Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year exhibition via Humanitix between 7 and 21 September 2022 and tick the check box to enter the competition.

An all-ages activity for exploring the Museum and your world.

Do you like taking photos of nature? The South Australian Museum is sending you on a photography quest through the Museum and into the great outdoors to snap your own nature photographs. So, grab your device and try your hand at these photography challenges. You could even enter your photographs in next year’s Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition!

Prize is 1 x Family Pass (2 x adults and 2 x children aged 4-14 years) valued at $102 and 1 x Double Adult Pass Family valued at $81 to Monarto Safari Park. Passes are valid for 36 months from date of issue. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be exchanged or redeemed for cash. Winners will be notified via email by 23 September 2022 and have 30 days from notice to confirm their acceptance of the prize via return email.
