The Museum is home to over 5 million incredible objects that we hold in trust. These objects and their stories allow us to create new knowledge and are fundamental to understanding and celebrating our natural history and culture from deepest time and into the future.
We hold the very best examples of fossils from when complex life began on Earth 550 million years ago - a global phenomenon first identified in South Australia. We are custodians of the largest, most comprehensive Australian Aboriginal cultural material collection globally and have the best museum collection of opals in the world. And that is just the beginning.
Our collections are your collections, and it is vital that together we preserve these irreplaceable objects so future generations can connect with the past in profound and meaningful ways.
Please consider making a donation today to ensure the future care and preservation of our collections.
